Since school is out and summer is here, I have a few things that you can be working on and preparing for your senior year.
- Work on Portfolios-whether you choose to keep a notebook or a computer file, get your stuff together! Any extracurricular activities, volunteer work, work, awards, leadership experience and any other relevant information that might be helpful for college application and scholarship applications. Almost all scholarship applications will ask for this information, so having it ready to go will be the most helpful for you.
- Work on Letters of Recommendation-many of you will want letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors and administration. Since you won’t have access to these people over the summer, work on letters of recommendation from others in the community. Or, work on compiling a list of attributes that you would like a recommender to mention in a letter. Here is a link to a document that will be helpful for you when asking for a letter of recommendation.
recommendation form1 - College Visits-Get on campus! One of the very best ways to see if a school is the right one for you is to get on campus. All schools have tours that you can take, so take advantage of this and go visit the schools you are thinking about. Remember, we will be done with your college applications by Halloween, so you want to know which schools you want to apply to.
Have a fabulous summer and get ready for an amazing senior year!
