Seniors, here are four awesome scholarship opportunities that are due here in the next few days.  Please take the chance and apply!  On another note, any students still interested in going on a tour of USU next Tuesday the 11th, please come see me for a permission slip.

December 7, 2018 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
-Have a demonstrated commitment to community service, outstanding qualities in character, integrity and leadership.
-Plan to attend college, university, vocational or technical school in the U.S.
-Demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities or through work experience.
-Strong commitment to and involvement in community service.
-GPA of 3.0 or higher.
-Full-time high school senior.
-Demonstrate financial need.
Award: $1,000

Deadline: December 7, 2018
-Senior members of National Honors Society
575 national semi-finalists $3,200
24 national finalists $5,625
1 national winner $25,000

Application opens on November 15, 2018
Deadline:  Dec. 7, 2018 (Priority Deadline), February 1, 2019 (Regular Deadline)
-Take the required classes in grades 9-12
-Four credits of English
-Four credits of Math (at least one must be selected from the advanced course list)
-Three credits of Social Science
-Three credits of lab-based Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
-Two credits of the same World Language
-Earn at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA
-Earn at least a 22 on the ACT
-Apply for the FAFSA
-Meet college enrollment or deferment requirements
Award: Every student who meets the requirements for the scholarship can receive a one-time award. Award amounts will be determined annually based on available funding. Students can earn a supplemental award if they have contributed to a my529 program in years 14, 15, and 16.  If students show financial need, they may also receive a supplemental award.

Deadline: December 8, 2018
-If you have a counselor that has impacted your life in a positive way, this scholarship will award both you and your counselor.
-Applicants must be a high school senior who plans to attend college
-Scholarship monies are given directly to the student
-Four scholarships will be awarded on February 1, 2018
Award: $1,000

Seniors, here are some scholarship opportunities and the deadlines are coming up quick. Please let Mrs. Dangerfield know if you need help or have questions about applying.

NATIONAL and STATE (Two separate applications)

Deadline:  Oct. 25, 2018 by 5:00 PM Eastern Time
-Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the United States, progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2015 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation.
-Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution).
-Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity.
-Co-curricular/community service activities.
-Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.
-Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required).
-Be a United States citizen.
-Utah scholarship requires Utah citizenship.
Award:  National – $25,000 (106 awards)
State – $10,000 (7 awards)

Deadline:  October 31, 2018
-Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the United States (or select DoD schools).
-U.S. Citizens; U.S. Nationals; U.S. Permanent Residents; Refugees; Asylees; Cuban-Haitian Entrants; or Humanitarian Parolees.
-Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application.
-Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.
-Carrying a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.
-Based on leadership, achievement, and character
Award:  $20,000 (150 awards) and Community College stipends that vary from $1,000-$1,500 (200 awards).

Application: ACT Student Champion Award (Seniors)
Deadline: October 31, 2018
-A student who has overcome challenges and can show what they are going to after high school, whether it is entering the workforce, or getting a post secondary education.
-Students must have a 22 on the ACT and a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Award: $500

Scholarship and ACT Deadlines Coming UP

The Don’t Text and Drive Scholarship deadline is September 30th.  The award is $1,000 and the requirements to apply are:

-You are a U.S. Citizen
-A high school student (freshman, sophomore, junior or senior)
-Write a 140 character statement on texting and driving

The Make Your Mark bookmark contest sponsored by My529 (educational savings plan) is due on October 1st.  The award is $1,000 and the requirements are:

-Must create a bookmark
-Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible

If you are interested in re-taking the ACT on October 28th, the registration deadline is Friday the 28th of September.  If you register after that date, there will be a late fee on top of the registration fee. You will need to register on the website.  *Seniors, this is the last opportunity you will have to take the ACT before the December college application deadlines.*

The RMACAC College Fair is being held tomorrow the 25th of September at the U of U from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  This is a great one to go to since there will be in state and out of state colleges attending the event. 130 colleges from across the country are registered to attend.

And last but not least, USU will be visiting Tooele High during both lunches on Wednesday.  If USU is possible on your radar, stay at school for lunch and meet with their advisors.  They usually bring fun swag with them too!
