Don’t Forget About These Upcoming Scholarships!

Here are a couple of great scholarships to consider applying for.

COLLEGE JUMPSTART SCHOLARSHIP

Deadline: Oct 17, 2019
Criteria:
-Open to sophomores, juniors and seniors
-The main requirement is that you are committed to going to school and can express your goals for getting a higher education.
-Financial need is NOT considered
Award: $1,000

COCA-COLA SCHOLARSHIP (Seniors)

Deadline:  October 31, 2019
Criteria:
-Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the United States (or select DoD schools).
-U.S. Citizens; U.S. Nationals; U.S. Permanent Residents; Refugees; Asylees; Cuban-Haitian Entrants; or Humanitarian Parolees.
-Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application.
-Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.
-Carrying a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.
-Based on leadership, achievement, and character
Award:  $20,000 (150 awards) and Community College stipends that vary from $1,000-$1,500 (200 awards).

Have You Started Applying for Scholarships?

A couple of reminders:

  1. Get your letters of recommendation. If you need help with this, please come see Mrs. Dangerfield in the Counseling Office.
  2. Start applying for scholarships if you haven’t already. Here are two examples of scholarships that are due on September 30th.
  3. Compile your list of accomplishments, community service, leadership and other other relevant information that shows everything you have done in high school.
  4. Get ready because October is College Knowledge Month and we will have you apply for FAFSA and college applications all through the month of October. (FAFSA opens October 1st)

MAKE YOUR MARK SCHOLARSHIP (kingergarten-12 grade)
Application: Make Your Mark Application
Deadline: September 1-30, 2019
Criteria:
-Must be in school in Utah
-Grades kindergarten through 12th grade
-Design a bookmark
Award: $1,000

DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE SCHOLARSHIP (9-12 grade)

Deadline: September 30, 2019
Criteria:  You must be a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior or a current or entering college or graduate school student of any level. Home schooled students are also eligible. There is no age limit. You must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
Description:  You will be asked to write a 140 character statement about texting and driving.  Finalists will be asked to submit a 500 to 1,000 word essay about texting and driving.
Award: $1,000

Final Day to Register for October 26th ACT

Please make sure you are getting your registration done today for the ACT so that you do not pay a 30 dollar late fee. It is 52 dollars to register for the test today. This test is held at Tooele high school.

Remember that there are December scholarships deadlines for colleges. This would be the last test you ca take to get the best ACT score for those deadlines.

Weber State University: December 1

The Presidential Scholarship deadline for SUU: December 1

BYU: December 16

If you need study material, the counseling office has that information. It is highly recommended that you study for the ACT.

Deadline for October 26th ACT Coming Up

The deadline to sign up for the ACT without a late fee is this Friday September 20th.  Please make sure you sign up as this test is the last one you can take if the school you are planning on going to has a December 1st scholarship deadline. Weber and the Presidential scholarship for SUU are due December 1st. BYU’s deadline is December 16th.
